Kind words from our patients

dental checkup in Anchorage, AK - What to expect

The best way for our team to keep track of your oral health is via a thorough oral examination. During a gentle visual and manual inspection of the teeth, gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth, we’re trained to spot deficiencies like the early signs of cavities, gum recession and other dental problems. We’ll also gently examine the head, neck and jaw for any lumps, bumps or lesions.

If it’s your first dental checkup in Anchorage, AK, we’ll also discuss your dental and medical history so that we can familiarize ourselves with any specific problems or concerns you may have. Additionally, on a first visit, full X-rays will also be taken.

If any issues are found after your examination, we’ll put together a personalized treatment plan so that we can get you back to optimal oral health.

Dental cleaning

As well as a dental exam, we might also recommend professional dental cleaning.  But why is this necessary?

No matter how well and how often we brush and floss our teeth, a build up of plaque know as tartar is likely to form. Unfortunately, hardened dental plaque (tartar) is the main contributor towards gum disease and cavities and cannot be removed through normal brushing and flossing. Instead it requires professional intervention to remove it.

Essentially, dental cleaning provides the following benefits:

  • The removal of harmful tartar which may otherwise cause gingivitis and poor gum health
  • Eradicating plaque prevents the formation of cavities
  • A clean and polish removes most surface staining, so your smile appears fresher and healthier
  • A mouth that is free of problems supports better overall health

Using gentle dental care, our hygienist will remove all signs of plaque above and below the gum line, polish your teeth and remove any residue, leaving your mouth fresh and healthy.

Here at Mint Dental, we excel at gentle dentistry. If you haven't been to the dentist for a while or your teeth are a little sensitive we can administer anesthetic so you won't feel any discomfort at all.

If you're an anxious patient in need of a dental checkup, Anchorage AK patients should know that we also have a sedation dentist who can help with conscious sedation allowing you to feel completely relaxed and stress-free throughout your examination.

Yes! In fact, it’s one of the best things you can do to take care of your oral health. During these visits, your hygienist will remove bacteria-causing plaque from your teeth. We’ll also make a plan for preventing or treating any dental issues such as periodontal disease or tooth decay. By catching these issues early, we can help you avoid bigger problems down the road that are more costly and more uncomfortable.

From the start, good oral health should be the responsibility of parents but to help, we recommend that your child have their first dentist visit by the age of 3 years old, once they have gotten all of their baby teeth.
