Modern & gentle tooth extraction in Anchorage

At Mint Dental, we prioritize minimally invasive procedures and conservative treatments. Our goal is to preserve your natural tooth whenever possible before considering extraction. Nonetheless, tooth extractions are sometimes necessary.

Tooth extraction involves removing the tooth and its root from the socket. Typically extraction is recommended to prevent the spread of infection further in the mouth or when there are no other treatments to save it.

Should you need tooth extraction, patients can rest assured that the procedure will be safe and gentle, and in most cases relatively quick, between 20 and 30 minutes.

Our dentists are highly experienced in both simple tooth extractions and more complex wisdom teeth removal when oral surgery will be required. Sedation can also be requested for particularly anxious patients.

When is a tooth extraction necessary?

A professional evaluation is essential to determine if extraction is the optimal solution for your dental health. Tooth removal might be advised if:

  • Wisdom teeth are leading to overcrowding or discomfort
  • Severe decay or damage renders the tooth irreparable
  • Oral infection has resulted in bone loss
  • Extra space is required for braces or dentures

Whether you’re seeking a second option, having been told you need a tooth extraction, experiencing constant toothache and need an urgent extraction or seeking a reputable dentist to remove your wisdom teeth, we’re here to help.

Our office will always try to see you same day and we make same day treatment a priority to get you out of pain and feeling better.

Normal side effects are bleeding, swelling and discomfort. You should eat soft foods that don’t require a lot of chewing and take your prescriptions as directed.

There are several options for replacing a missing tooth or teeth.  A dental implant or a fixed dental bridge offer permanent replacement options.  A partial denture or a “flipper” can help fill the missing tooth space or multiple spaces at once.

Not replacing an extracted tooth puts increasing load on the remaining teeth making them more susceptible to wear and tear. In addition, the adjacent teeth may shift towards the gap to try and close it, and this can cause misalignment and affect the bite. Often patients try to compensate for a missing tooth by chewing on the opposite side of the mouth and this can lead to problems with TMJ.

Generally, dentists recommend waiting for 3 to six months for the area to heal completely. If you're looking to replace the extracted tooth with a dental implant it can sometimes be replaced simultaneously, but this would need to be discussed first with your dentist.

Most dental PPO insurance plans cover 80% to 90% of tooth extraction costs. At Mint Dental, we verify your coverage and inform you of your out-of-pocket expenses before any procedure. On the procedure day, you'll only pay your portion, and we'll handle the insurance claim and payment directly.
